A Brief History Of The Shrine
Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine is a pilgrimage centre in Rigaud. Its hillside location is renowned for its natural beauty.
Dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin, the Shrine stands as a reminder of the apparitions and message of Mary to Bernadette Soubiroux in Lourdes, France, in 1858.
Sixteen years later, in 1874, Mary's call to Bernadette echoed in the heart of brother Ludger Pauzé, Cleric of Saint Viator, a member of the staff of College Bourget. He found a discreet location on the hill to place a small statue of Our Lady of Lourdes.
His Superior, Father François-Xavier Chouinard, other teachers and fervent pupils shared in the secret and were led to pray the Virgin. Youth were the first pilgrims. A true Marian devotion was born and was continued to flourish since then.
